The truest evidence for God requires faith and sometimes solitude and reflection. Coincidences like that happen more often than we realize. We need faith to be tuned in to them, to experience them. In times of peaceful reflection, such as gardening can bring, we can hear God more clearly.

Jesus was led by the Spirit
The Spirit drove Jesus out into the desert, and he remained in the desert for forty days, tempted by Satan. He was among wild beasts and the angels ministered to him. Mark 1:12 When the priest proclaims, “The gospel of the Lord,” there are certain scriptures that I find it hard to respond to withContinue reading “Jesus was led by the Spirit”
Serenity in Battle
I LOVE this image of St. Joseph. He looks like he’s just out for a nice stroll in the woods, maybe getting some firewood and collecting flowers. And while he’s out walking and collecting, oh, yeah, he slays the devil. St. Joseph doesn’t show any sign of fear, repulsion, or anger at the beast belowContinue reading “Serenity in Battle”
Saturday, Glorious
Today is Saturday. I was worried and decided to pray the rosary. The first Glorious Mystery, the Resurrection, told me not to worry. We will not be on this cross forever. The second Glorious Mystery, the Ascension, told me not to worry. We will rise again with him.The third Glorious Mystery, the descent of the HolyContinue reading “Saturday, Glorious”
The good you do
Even the mistakes you make when serving the Lord are beautiful and edifying. One morning last week, I met my cousin for coffee to talk about the way of the world and spiritual things. I have always admired his fortitude in walking with the Lord. He spent years devoted to prayer. He goes to aContinue reading “The good you do”
A Prayer List for Our Enemies
A list of the enemies we need to know and pray for.
Returning Home
When I was a kid, my grandparents lived in a small two-bedroom house on a farm, seemingly miles away from the closest neighbor. They had a dog, a black mutt that had a white stripe around the top of his neck that looked like a permanent collar. His name was Major. When we went fishing,Continue reading “Returning Home”
Your vote matters every day, not just once every four years
We may feel defeated now that Trump, who many of us saw as a sort of temporal Katechon holding back the evils of a new world order, has apparently been cheated out of the election. America and the world lost a great opportunity. Under Trump, the United States could have “more gently and organically [become],Continue reading “Your vote matters every day, not just once every four years”
Seeing Red
Red, my anger.Red, the three stripes of the enemy. Red, Republican red.Red, the color of financial ruin. The red army, waiting around the corner-Pharisees wringing handsdrunk on entrapment. Did I say something wrong?Did I dare offend the malformed consciences? The diseased minds of the do-good pavers–those who raise hell just to make the path to it smoother?DidContinue reading “Seeing Red”
Take a Break on Sunday -God
When I was a kid, Sunday was a day for church and relaxing. I had never heard of youth sports on Sunday morning or an NFL game starting at 10:00 a.m. There was definitely no weekly wrap-up of the “news” on TV or any talking heads blabbering on about the sorry state of affairs weContinue reading “Take a Break on Sunday -God”
